The subject of Biblical Demonology is not the most "Feel Good" subject in Christianity, but it is indeed very real. Chuck Swindol once said in his book The Continuation Of Somthing Great that "demonism is niether funny, nor phony.. It's real!" The main point is that even Christians can be impacted by the devil & demons. They can not steal away your Salvation, but they can hinder you in your walk, try to destroy your testimony, uproot your ministry and interfere with leading people to Jesus Christ, if we are not in tune with THE SPIRITUAL BATTLE all around us! The fact is that every Christian has the power to cast down demonic evil in our world (2 Cor 10:4&5), but few utilize it. Many more mis-appropriate the subject by over sensationalizing it. CS Lewis wrote in The Screwtape Letters that "There are two equal and opposite errors into which our race can fall about the devils. One is to disbelieve in their existence. The other is to believe, and to feel an excessive and unhealthy interest in them. They themselves are equally pleased by both errors and hail a materialist or a magician with the same delight." I know that with so many different ways that Christian Ministries approach this subject, from Moody Radio to TBN, that it can get rather confusing to understand what is correct. However, the main thing to realize is that all demonic forces and even the devil himself are subject to the authority of God The Father, Jesus Christ The Son and The Holy Ghost! Hence, if we as Christians are strong in the LORD and the POWER of HIS MIGHT (Eph 6:10), we are representitives of Jesus' authority against any demonic forces. Jesus Himself said in the Great Commission of the Gospel of Mark "And these signs shall follow them that believe: In my name shall they cast out devils" (Mark 16:17). Many have a "Hollywood" concept of demons from movies like The Exorcist and The Exorcism Of Emily Rose that portray unrealistic methodology loosely based on the Catholic Rite Of Exorcism (which is fundementally a prayer of repentence and deliverence). The bottom line is that Jesus demonstrated casting down unclean spirits all throughout His Earthly ministry, so this is NOT a subject that modern Christians should ignore. We are still in a spiritual war with satan today!
So with that said, how is the practical application of this subject to our daily lives utilized without getting too focused on demons, yet not ignoring them either??
Any Thoughts??
